Nvidia fell harder than the AI spenders it sells to as the Nasdaq lost 2.8%

The Nasdaq Composite fell 2.8% on Friday, according to Yahoo Finance. At the close, Nvidia was down 4.22%, Microsoft 1.55%, Amazon 1.41% and Alphabet 1.40%.

Amazon's quarter showed the strain. It spent about $77 billion on property and equipment from July through September, against $35 billion a year earlier. Its free cash flow, the cash left after that spending, was an outflow of more than $42 billion over twelve months.

The session charged the seller harder than the buyers. Yahoo Finance's live coverage tied Nvidia's fall to fear that the hyperscalers, the largest cloud and data center owners, are overspending. Nvidia's sales are their capital budgets, so doubt about those budgets reached the chips first.

The spenders kept another door open. Microsoft is announcing $25 billion in new issuance, CNBC reported, meaning securities sold to raise cash. The hyperscalers have issued some $271 billion in debt and equity this year. In a note, Hartnett at Bank of America urged buying tech bonds. He cited yields, the annual return a buyer locks in, of 6 to 8% on the biggest tech names.

The cost of the gap is moving toward lenders, who are paid a fixed yield to wait. Shareholders carry the doubt. Friday's prices weighed spending against cash. None of them measured what the machines will do to the work they are bought to perform.

The tape will watch whether buyers of the new debt ask a higher yield to keep carrying it.
