Anthropic's filing lifted the chip sellers while Micron's Taiwan pay claim went unpriced
Anthropic made its S-1 public on Monday. That is the registration statement a company files before selling shares to the public. It reported $16.3 billion in revenue for the first half of 2026, against $4.6 billion for all of 2025. US stocks rose on the filing. The S&P 500 closed up 0.70% and the Nasdaq Composite up 0.82%. Chip suppliers led, with Micron up 2.84% and Nvidia up 2.42%.
The session paid the sellers of compute. Anthropic spent $5.6 billion on computing power in the second quarter, according to Yahoo Finance's reading of the filing. Its roughly 5,300 employees brought in more than $6.6 million of revenue each. That ratio is what the ledger counts: output per head, and cash flowing to whoever owns the chips.
Micron's gain came while its Taiwan unions were still demanding 15% of operating profit as quarterly bonuses. The Taoyuan union had set a strike for October 22, The Next Web reported. The price carried the memory windfall. The claim of the people who make the memory, on a fixed share of it, left no visible mark on the close.
Seoul closed before the filing appeared. The benchmark KOSPI fell 1.46%, with investors wary of returns on AI spending ahead of SK hynix and Samsung results this week, Trading Economics reported. The desk made no ruling, because no eligible article was one that this session's closes could test.
The tape will watch whether Seoul's Tuesday close absorbs a US rebound it had no part in. It will also watch whether Micron's pay dispute reaches the company's own accounts.
